Breaking: Napoli signs Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen from Lille

 Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has today joined Napoli from Lille in France.   The Nigerian striker, who was acquired by Lille last season for a fee of €12million, agreed a 5-year deal with Napoli, who purchased him for €50million plus add ons. The transfer fee sees him become the most expensive Nigerian player ever. 

NBA election results: Akpata maintains social distance in landslide victory

The 2020 elections of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) came to an end yesterday at about 11pm. The election which was done online via electionbuddy, was one of the easiest and most peaceful election witnessed since the inception of NBA.  The Presidential election aspect of the NBA election, saw the non-silk, Mr. Olumide Akpata emerge the winner over his learned silk oppositions in a landslide victory, which has seen many lawyers joke that he maintained social distance from his opponents. While addressing supporters at the NBA headquarters Abuja, the incoming president of the NBA also expressed his gratitude for being voted, while also assuring that transformational leadership will be witnessed in his administration.  In the same vein, Former NBA President, Augustine Alegeh, SAN, has congratulated the incoming president for the victory: " The elections are over and we need to come together as a family to offer our support, advice and encouragem

There is no Boko Haram? So who attacked me? - Governor Zulum questions Army

Following the attack on his convoy Yesterday by suspected Boko Haram bandits, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has questioned the attitude of the Nigerian Army towards their acclaimed fight against the Boko Haram insurgents in the state.  Governor Babagana and his entourage had embarked on a humanitarian visit to one of the areas difficult to reach, Baga Town, when they were ambushed by the suspected Boko Haram insurgents.  The attack was repelled by the security operatives in the convoy, however, about 15 persons were left injured.  While confronting to the Commanding Officer in Mile 4, Governor Zulum decried the attitude of the military to safeguard the lives of the indigenes Baga community and protect them from the insurgents.  " The army has been here for over one year now. There are 1,181 soldiers here; if you cannot take over Baga which is less than 5km from your base, then we should forget about Baga.  "I will inform the Chief of Army staff to redeploy

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike suspends payment of taxes.

As a means of reducing the harsh impact of Covid-19 pandemic, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has suspended payment of taxes SMEs, Shop owners and Hairdressers. The Governor also authorised suspension of Local Government taxies and levies, excluding tenement levies.  Nice one Mr. Governor! 

PHOTOS: Anambra State Judiciary holds court session of Late Justice Amaechina

The Anambra State Judiciary, today being Thursday the 30th day of July, 2020, held the Court Session of one of its revered judges, Hon. Justice D. O. C. Amaechina (now deceased). The Court session witnessed a large turn out of lawyers, judges, magistrates, customary court presidents and judiciary staff from different parts of the state, and some neighbouring states.  Late Honourable Justice D. O. C. Amaechina, was called to the Nigerian Bar on Friday 23rd October, 1987. After several years of successful legal practice, he was elevated to the High Court Bench in the year 2004. The sudden demise of His Lordship was announced on 29th February, 2020 to the chagrin of many. Late Justice Amaechina's last official presence, was at inauguration of the Court of Appeal, Awka Judicial Division on 5th February, 2020. My Lord, may your soul rest in peace!!! 

"Mummy Calm Down" - Boy in viral video appointed ambassador of a group

What have you heard about grace? Do you believe there is something called grace? No matter your response to this, those who believe in grace believes that grace has located the boy in the viral " mummy calm down " video.  The boy, yesterday got a deal with a group known as ' Combat Domestic Violence and Abuse Foundation ' to become their ambassador and face of their campaign.  The group has earlier posted on their social media handle, pleading with people to pass a message across and help it get to the family of the boy, as they would want to appoint him their ambassador. In a later post, the group could be seen announcing breakthrough in getting to meet the boy and his mother for the endorsement, which they also announced on their handle. 

Breaking: Borno State Governor's Convoy attacked by gunmen.

Reports reaching Nuelnaija's blog, has confirmed that unknown gunmen have attacked the convoy of Borno State Governor, Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum.  In a second known attack within the last one year, on the convoy of the Governor, it was gathered that, His Excellency was on his way to some internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the state, when the attack occurred.  The source reports that the Governor's convoy was double-crossed at Baga, while coming back from Kukawa, by the unknown gunmen. Nobody was reported injured. 

Breaking: Bandits kill 14 in Fresh Kogi attack; many injured.

As has become normal recently in different parts of the country, tragedy struck again today, as gunmen attacked Agudu, Bassa community in Kogi State, killing 14 in fresh massacre, while injuring many.  The incident was confirmed by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Ede Ayuba, who reported that on receiving distress call following the attack, he took his men and headed for the scene. However, on getting to the scene, they found out the bandits had absconded.  He further reported that survivors of the attack who however sustained varying degrees of injury, has been taken to medical centres. 

Education: FG sets date for NECO and NABTEB examinations

The Nigerian Government has today set examination dates for the National Examination Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB).  The Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Ben Goong, in a press briefing on Wednesday, disclosed that NECO will start on 5th of October, 2020 and end on 18th of November, 2020. He further revealed that NABTEB will also commence on 21st of September, 2020 and end on 15th October, 2020.

Southern Kaduna Killings: Northern Christians Lambaste Buhari and El-Rufai

The Northern States' Christians Elders Forum (NOSCEF), yesterday stated that the attitudes of the State and Federal Governments in justifying the attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Southern Kaduna indigenes, which the Governments have described as reprisals, will only encourage the herdsmen to persist with the attacks.  The Chairman of NOSCEF, Engr. Ejoga Inalegwu, during press briefing on Tuesday, observed that, " In the past one week alone, reports show that over 60 people were killed by the rampaging Fulani herdsmen who invaded communities in Zangon Kataf, Kauru, kajuru and Jena'a Local Governments in the Southern Part of Kaduna, and unleashed terror on people.  "Thousands of people have been displaced and in various refugee camps. Abdulrasheed Maina released from prison - NAN

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has today, disclosed that the ex-chairman of Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, has been released from Kuje Prison, nine months after his detention.  Mr. Maina was on the 25th day of October, 2019 arraigned before Hon. Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, by the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission, with his son Fasai, and his firm, Common Input Property and Investment Ltd. They have been in detention since the date of arraignment.  Maina's attorney, Adeola Adedipe, during a telephone conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday, confirmed that Maina was released on Monday, after completing the necessary documents for his release.  " It was already late last week Friday so the now have a new timeline shifted at 6'Oclock. Benin Republic, Niger owe Nigeria 1.4 Billion Naira Electricity bills - Presidency

The Presidency has today disclosed that Nigeria's two closest neighbors, Benin Republic and Niger, are indebted to Nigerian Government to the tune of 1.4 Billion Naira for the supply of electricity.  The Presidency, while addressing the reactions of Nigerians vis-a-vis the constant blackouts often experienced in the country, while the nation continues to export electricity to the neighbouring countries on credit, revealed that as at the 2019, the debts owed to Nigeria by three countries amount to 69 Million USD.  According to the Presidential spokesperson, Mr. Garba Shehu,  " As of the last review in 2019, the amount of indebtedness to all three customers stood at $69Million, subsequent upon which payments were made to NBET. "Much of this, has been repaid by the debtor nations.  "As of today, Niger owes only 16Million USD, and Benin Republic 4Million USD, adding up to the Naira equivalent of about 1.2Billion."

Kurudu-Nasarawa Bridge collapses.

Kurudu, Nasarawa Local Government bridge, today came down crashing on its knees, as travelers were left stranded.  The bridge situated along Abaji-Nasarawa Federal Highway succumbed to the mounting pressures caused by heavy duty vehicles plying the root on a daily, and shocked the users.  The indigenes of the community, have also appealed to the Federal Government, through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to come to their aid and give the road urgent attention as the Sallah Festival draws near. 

BLACK TUESDAY: As trailer crushes Pregnant woman and her child to death in Ebonyi.

Tragedy struck on Tuesday in Ebonyi State, as a Pregnant woman and her child were sent to their earlier graves, by a trailer which lost its balance and tumbled on the tricycle carrying them.  Nearby sources disclosed that the pregnant woman and her little child were on their way to Ndubia Market located in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.  The pregnant woman, took her little kid along with her, while she headed to the market to go and sell cassava, in order to raise money for hospital bills of her sick child. But unknown to her, the unfortunate event awaited her on the road.  The Driver of the trailer has since reported at the nearby police station to avoid mob reactions.

NBA Decides: Nigerian Lawyers await new leadership, as final lap of campaign intensifies.

Legal Practioners in Nigeria, will tomorrow, Wednesday the 29th day of July, 2020, make one of the most important decisions in their quest to take their Association to greater and better heights.  The lawyers in every part of the country, eagerly await the election portal to be opened as they seek to get their desirable candidates into the seat of leadership, which the winners will occupy for two years duration.  While some are already decided on their choice candidates, some camps are still showing concerns as to the preparedness of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) regarding the election scheduled to hold on 29th and 30th of July, 2020. Drama: As CAC withdraws certificates of registration of Ohaneze, Arewa

There was drama today, as the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) announced its withdrawal of Registration Certificates of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and few other cultural groups in Nigeria.  This shocking development was a bitter pill to swallow for some of the groups, as Ohaneze has threatened legal action, though that does not bother the commission.  The Registrar-General of the Commission stated that the decisions are part of the measures necessitated by the need to sanitize the Commission's operations. While addressing the press, he stated: " We have withdrawn the certificate of Ohaneze Ndigbo General Assembly because the certificate should not have been issued in the first instance.   "We have an established protocol that all organisations; ethnic, religious with political implications should be referred for security clearance before such organisations are registered. WAEC: Graduating classes to resume on 4th August, 2020

The Federal Ministry of Education, has today, 27th day of July, 2020 issued a directive for secondary school students to resume school on Tuesday the 4th day of August, 2020.  However, this is only applicable to the students in graduating classes. This was made known to the public via a secular released by the Federal Ministry of Education. 

BBNaija Lockdown Challenge: Lucy emerges Head of House; appoints Prince as Deputy

The new Head of House (HoH) challenge for the 2nd week of the current Big Brother Naija Lockdown edition, saw Lucy emerge the winner.  This makes it the first time ladies will become Head of House consecutively for the first two weeks of the show since its inception.  Lucy, who was expected to pick a deputy, appointed Prince to be her deputy for this week. What this means, is that both Lucy and Prince are exempted from the eviction show come Sunday. Until now, fans have predicted Lucy to be among the first set of people to leave Biggie's house. JUDICIARY: Court of Appeal loses one of its Judges.

The Court of Appeal, Ibadan Judicial Division, has lost one of its Judges, Hon. Justice Nonye Okoronkwo.  The Late Justice Okoronkwo, who was until his elevation to the Court of Appeal, a High Court Judge of Imo State, was confirmed dead on Sunday morning, 26th July, 2020 at the University College Hospital, Ibadan after a failed Heart Surgery.  My Lord, may your soul rest in peace.. Amen!
